Information for New Parents and Wrestlers

Welcome to the Tesoro Wrestling Family! This page will cover material that is helpful for new parents and high school wrestlers. If you are new to the sport of wrestling or to our program, please review this page first. Contact our coaching staff if you have additional questions.

Joining the Team

Step 1: Athletic Clearance

Before a high school athlete can participate in any sport, they must first complete their Athletic Clearance. For more information, please visit https://www.tesorotitanathletics.com/athleticclearance.

Step 2: Join sportsYou

sportsYou is the app that Tesoro Wrestling uses for updates, messaging, and it contains our team calendar. Please see the sportsYou PDF below for more information and for our team code. Both parents and athletes should download and use this app.

Step 3: Wrestling Donation

Because our program is largely self-funded, we rely on our wrestling families help to grow the program and cover annual operating expenses. Every season, we ask our members to contribute to our program with a requested donation amount. Click here for more information and to donate today!

Step 4: Show Up & Work Hard

This is final and most important step. The Tesoro Wrestling Program is a No-Cut Sport! If an athlete consistently attends practice and works hard, they are on the team. Our focus is on inclusion and development. We pride ourselves in developing young men and women to be successful on and off of the mat.

Wrestling PE Credit

Wrestling is a PE class and carries credit just like any other course. Tesoro athletes can take Wrestling as their PE class/credit for both Fall and Spring Semesters.

Grades

Grades are based on attendance and participation, not skill level.

Class Time

Wrestling is a 7th Period Class and practices are held after school. Practice times and schedules vary. Please see the sportsYou calendar for the most up-to-date practice schedule.

Commitment

Out-of-season, athletes must complete 10 hours of PE activity every two weeks. We will hold 2-3 workouts per week to meet this requirement.

In-season, we practice 4-5 times a week plus competitions. Wrestling season goes from late October through January. The wrestling postseason (State Series) is held in February. Only Varsity wrestlers that qualify for the postseason will continue practicing 4-5 times a week. Everyone else will switch back to practicing 2-3 times per week in February.

Practice Attire and Equipment

It is essential that each athlete come prepared to fully participate in practice throughout the entire season. The following items must be purchased by the athlete for daily training and competition readiness:

Equipment

  • Mouthguard (required only if wrestler has braces)

  • Headgear

  • Wrestling Shoes

  • Knee Pads (optional, for comfort)

Practice Apparel

  • Practice Shirt – All wrestlers must wear a Tesoro T-shirt or similar

  • Practice Shorts or Sweatpants – Mandatory must be in Tesoro school colors

  • Wrestling Bag or Backpack – Optional but recommended for storing and transporting wrestling gear

Hygiene

  • Always wear clean clothes to practice and re-apply deodorant beforehand

  • Fingernails must be trimmed weekly

  • Shower immediately after practice thoroughly with soap.

  • Clean headgear, kneepads, and other equipment regularly

  • Report any questionable skin conditions to a coach immediately
